Tortilla Dough
Make this recipe with a Davis & Waddell World Gourmet Tortilla Press
INGREDIENTS
280g plain flour
1 tsp. salt
1 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. butter
½ cup water
METHOD
Sift flour, salt and baking powder in a large mixing bowl. Rub in butter until mixture resembles breadcrumbs.
Add water and mix until the dough can be gathered together. If necessary, add more water, 1 teaspoon at a time. Cover the dough with a damp cloth and rest for 15 minutes.
Divide dough into 12 equal pieces and roll into balls.
Place a ball of dough in centre of tortilla press. Close top and apply pressure to lever to flatten. You may wish to use waxed or parchment paper to release dough more easily from press.
Remove pressed tortilla and cook on a grill or skillet according to your recipe.
CHEF’S NOTE
You can even deep fry for crispy homemade tortilla chips.
